Brand Yourself Purposefully . . . Before It Happens Without Your Knowing It

Let’s face it.  We all need recognition.  It’s a core human desire. So let’s talk about why you need to brand yourself.

Without recognition we are lost.

It began when we were babies, children, adolescents, and now, even as adults, it’s a basic need.  We need recognition from our spouses, our bosses, our friends, and our co-workers.

Recognition makes us tick.  And that’s exactly why you should brand yourself.  That recognition not only suffices to make you a more well-adjusted human being, it also helps you along life’s path for years in to your future.

As an online marketer, branding yourself is important for a number of reasons.

Here’s six of those reasons: 

Reason 1:  If you brand yourself consistently in a way that ties in to your company brand, you will be thought of more often when a customer is making a buying decision. 

 We know that branding works.  We know that the commercial jingle we heard years ago like “I wish I was an Oscar Meyer Weiner” still sticks in our heads years later.  It has taken up residence somewhere in our mind and created either a positive memory or a negative memory and each and every time we see an Oscar Meyer Weiner, that memory will be there — even if it’s just in our subconscious and we don’t recognize it.  So brand yourself positively and it will follow you wherever you go — from business to business or even outside the business world if done correctly.

Reason 2:  Branding is a lot like being given a name when you’re born . . . you’re stuck with it for a lifetime.

Now you can let branding happen accidentally or randomly with no real effort on your part or you can make certain that your branding tells the story you want it to about you and your skills as an online marketer.

This basically means that you need a “branding plan”.  A plan that has been created and will be engineered in a way that will serve you well.  If you just let your branding occur without your controlling it, you may live for many years trying to erase that brand that you picked up along the way somehow.

Reason 3:  Branding yourself boldly can take you to the top of your industry.

One of the best ways to position your personal brand is to boldly own an attitude about something that you can do better than your competitors or even your peers. Every online marketer has specific attributes that are important to their followers, like integrity and trust. Craft a simple message about your abilities and your products or services, stick with it, and make that your identity.

Reason 4:  Find a need and dominate it.

Internet Marketers can take a “small idea” and grow it really large.  How?  Find an idea that fills a gaping hole.  Discover a need in your marketplace that’s never been met before.  Make a plan and determine how to fill that need for your subscribers better than anyone else ever has or possibly ever will.  If you dominate the market, those copycats who try to do exactly what you do will only amplify your positioning.

Reason 5:  Engage and enchant your prospective buyers.

At the end of the day, you’re only as good as your customers who love and appreciate you, not just your business, but YOU, the person. That’s why developing a special customer relationship model that’s hard to copy can propel your subscriber list forward and of course, your revenue reports. Engaged and enchanted subscribers and blog readers is just about as good as it gets.

Reason 6: Figure out how you can grow and especially scale your efforts.

If you can figure out how to scale your efforts with automation and technology while still creating a touchy-feely relationship with your subscribers, you will have leverage and more rapid growth. Create systems that do the work for you. Utilize the social media and technology that is at your fingertips.  Make yourself look like a subscriber-engaging Rock Star by simply learning to work less but produce more.

Reason 7:  Figure out the balance between innovation, branding and staying true to yourself.

Just because a certain personality branding works for one person doesn’t mean it will work for another.  If you ignore innovation and what works, your competitors will quickly pass you by. On the other hand, too much innovation, too quickly will confuse your customers. To create a truly successful brand for yourself, use open innovation, and see the power of involving your subscribers in the process of innovating.

An Online Marketer can’t afford to hole up at their computer these days without constantly educating themselves. Social media such as Facebook, Twitter, and blogs, connect your subscribers to one another, and you, twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. If you don’t take charge of your branding, someone else will and they are not likely to brand you in the way you want to be branded.

So take charge.  Don’t create a situation where you have the impossible task of removing a negative brand.
